Fashion Looks at Ethics,Values--The Need to Dream

October 5, 2006

Trends for 2007

Consumers have long been concerned with the impact of
consumerism on the environment as well as the social
factors that impact the structure of the workplace. The
movement towards an awareness of the living and working
conditions of those who manufacture the luxury items that
we consume has gathered momentum during the past decade.
The luxury goods industry addressed these issues some time
ago as is increasingly reflected by their corporate values
and strong images involving social and environmental
causes.

An interesting perspective is the challenge to reconcile
environmental and ethical concerns with aesthetics. The
idea that beautiful designs must also reflect
environmentally sound concepts is the first priority of the
fashion industry. Fine design is the vehicle that will lift
these socially conscious ideas from their present status as
merely as niche market.

Need to dream

Let's face it, we all need to escape reality at some point
and the present world situation makes this temptation all
the more enticing. This desire to escape pushes us towards
a fashionably artificial world somewhere between glamour
and romanticism. Among other fantasies that we can fulfill
through fashion, materials conjure up the fabulous,
slightly dream-like world of dance and the ballet.

A gossamer-light sensual fantasy captures visual
sensations of soft blurring amidst flashes of light.
Voluptuous tangles and weaves of the fibres emerge with
a dimensional appearance to the decoration and appearance
of your cozy, warm winter wear.
